We chat with Made Studio about the Joncols design process
Marta Ribas is an artist from Barcelona who stands out for her abstract collages of different textures and visual richness. Her creative process begins at her intuition and she seeks to reflect her thoughts in a completely unique way.
We had a chat with her about her work and the limited edition pieces that form part of the Kave Artists collaboration.
1. What artistic technique do you work with?
In my work, I mainly use collage and mixed media, I work with scraps of paper or fabric that I sometimes combine with paint.
At the moment I am focusing on textile art and tapestries. I like to experiment with the language of different materials and create artwork with a variety of textures.
2. What is special about the artistic technique you use?
To me, collage is a technique that teaches you a lot and is fun at the same time. It helps you gain more confidence in your work because of the trial and error factor, and adding or removing elements as you wish.
Here you can apply more or less intuition, and do and undo before deciding on the final result. Being able to combine several materials enables you to obtain greater visual richness.
3. How did you get started in art?
Since I started studying design, I have always had an urge to try to get away from the screen and contribute something to the creative process by working with my hands.
It was during the period when I lived in Vancouver (Canada) that I really immersed myself into a new format of expression and started painting. That decision had a big impact on what followed. Without even realising, my style began moving towards abstraction and mixed media. I became interested in abstract expressionism, I felt a lot of formal and expressive connection between what I was doing and movement, so I continued exploring in that direction.
4. What do you like most about your work?
Being able to translate ideas, thoughts and memories into something unique.
5. What part of the house is your place of inspiration?
The studio is the place I have got into a routine of exploring my creativity. Having a space set aside for creative practise is what enables you to access it.
A place designed for this purpose, where you have all your tools, materials, etc. close at hand. Inspiration comes from many places.
6. How important is the space you are in when you are creating?
Even though I work in the studio, I often like to go away to the beach or the mountains for example. Ultimately, I think it's all about finding spaces that make you connect with your creativity more automatically.
7. What are the must-haves?
Tranquillity and peace.
8. What does it mean to you to be able to collaborate with Kave Home?
I love the idea that my work will be able to reach and decorate more spaces through Kave Home.
9. What inspired your work in this collection x Kave Home?
The work I´m presenting for this collection is not created with any particular concept in mind but most of my work has a very marked abstract component to it inspired by geography and nature.
