A design-centric office
As we explained in our article on hygge, this philosophy is all about creating the perfect environment for a happier and healthier life. Let’s get started!
1. Simplicity above all
The Danes, who invented this concept, have a traditionally minimalist style that uses as few colours as possible to maintain a sense of calm, order and tranquility.
To guarantee this simplicity, our best tip is to maintain an organised home. But what’s the quickest and easiest way to do it? Furniture with storage options is always a great ally.
2. Your bed as a temple of rest
If you’ve got a comfortable bed, why not spend more time in it? A free morning at the weekend is a great time to treat yourself to a few minutes’ more to lie in, or you could also go to bed earlier to read or switch off.
And if it isn’t particularly comfortable? No worries. We’ve got the perfect mattresses to help you enjoy the bed you deserve.
3. A place to think and relax
It’s also a good idea to give yourself a place to rest, read or relax, preferably with a source of natural light and a view. Add as many cushions, blankets and accessories as you like to feel at home in your own world.
Follow this rule in your bathroom, too – it’s the perfect place to grab a few more minutes of me time. Create your own spa with wooden furniture, minimalist décor and fabrics that feel good to touch.
4. Happiness is a warm candle
The Danes are huge fans of the magical atmosphere we can generate by simply lighting a candle, as it’s a natural form of light that’s perfect for enjoying the last few hours of the day.
And if you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace, candles are the perfect trick for creating the chill-out effect.
5. Being in good company
Few things compare to moments shared with our family and friends. This is one of the pillars of hygge and one of the rules to remember when decorating our homes. Choose a comfortable place for your guests, the ideal decorative pieces and create a welcoming mood with your décor.
Got a garden, terrace or balcony? Use it for entertaining your guests and feel the relaxing power of the fresh air, no matter the season.
6. The magic of old and imperfect things
If you’ve got some ornaments that are almost part of the family but are starting to outstay their welcome, try giving them a new lease of life with a coat of paint or a different location. Try to recycle everything you can and bring out the sentimental value of each object. The planet will thank you for it.
7. Create your own library
Books play an important role in this philosophy. If you can keep them close to hand, they’ll help you to read more as well as providing decoration, making your home feel much more vibrant and personal.
