Giving our loved ones a nice surprise is always a good idea, so here are 10 ways to brighten up someone’s day. Whether they’re a fan of Barcelona, a devoted foodie or one of life’s true originals, we’re sure that one of these gifts will put a smile on their face.

1. “Barcelona 1957” photography book by Leopoldo Pomés

Sin duda, es uno de mis fotógrafos favoritos. Un libro imprescindible para cualquier amante del arte y, sobre todo, de Barcelona.

2. The hipster map of Barcelona

A great way to remember that there are endless gift ideas close to our city (or neighbourhood), I think these maps are always a great option. They’re also a great gift idea for friends or relatives who live far away and want to soak up a bit of that Barcelona air. You can buy a map of Barcelona here, or if you prefer one city neighbourhood in particular, Lovely Streets has more options.

3. Dinner at the Observatori Fabra

The “dinner with the stars” at one of city’s most spectacular viewpoints has achieved iconic status. The evening includes a visit to the Observatory plus a tasting menu – there’s a range to choose from to suit your budget or preferences.

4. Unwind at Aires de Barcelona

For a stressed-out friend/relative/partner, what could be better than a spa morning to pamper the body (and soul)? We recommend Aires de Barcelona, built in a converted 18th century warehouse in the heart of the Born.

5. Wine tasting at Vinoteca Torres

This activity is a great gift for wine lovers. It involves trying different wines and dishes and aiming to guess which ones make the best pairing. As well as being a fun way to spend an evening, you’ll learn a ton from the house sommelier who leads the tasting.

6. Gourmet hampers from La Cuina d’en Garriga

OK, this gift might not be the most original in the world and could even feel a little impersonal... BUT you can’t deny that pretty much everyone loves a sweet treat. And if your friend, parent or partner is a fan of the finer things, I promise that they’ll think of you and smile every time they take a nibble. La Cuina d’en Garriga, one of our favourite restaurants, puts together a range of gourmet hampers with the finest products for every taste: “La Catalana” and “El Vermut” are two of our favourites.

7. Wine and cheese tasting to enjoy at home

This is what Tastaemocions have in store for us. It was my Christmas present from my other half and brilliant fun. We did the tasting with another couple and have been heartily recommending it ever since.

8. Bike ride to Fábrica Espinaler

I don’t know about you, but I always find it much more satisfying to give an activity or plan rather than something material. Here’s what I suggest for this gift: hire bikes for a day and surprise the lucky person with a trip to Barcelona-Vilassar de Dalt and the famous Fábrica Espinaler. It’s a 30 km trip but the ride is along the seafront and very flat. Anyone can do it, so no excuses! Once there, take them for the most delicious yet great value tapas lunch. Tip: you can come back on the train (carrying your bikes) or if you’re feeling up to it, do the return 30km from Vilassar to the centre of Barcelona.

9. Yoga & Brunch at Surf House Barcelona

If you fancy a relaxed morning of exercise followed by a yummy brunch overlooking the sea, we recommend the activity programme at Surf House Barcelona. Our favourite? The Yoga&Brunch.

10. Vintage finds at Los Encants

If you’re a confirmed furniture addict with a home full of quirky pieces and, El Mercat de Bellcaire is for you. It's a market where you can pick up all kinds of antiques and a life-affirming experience that’ll give you new inspiration for your home.
